Exploring Yao Embroidery: A Hands-on Journey into Chinese Cultural Heritage
中華歷史文化與傳承:瑤族刺繡非遺工作坊

Our school's S4 and S5 Chinese History students recently visited The Hong Kong Polytechnic University to join the "Chinese Cultural Festival." Our students participated in an immersive cultural workshop about the history of Yao Embroidery.

The visit began with the "Exhibition on the History, Culture, and Prominent Figures of Hakka in the Greater Bay Area", showcasing the shared cultural roots. Through precious overseas remittance letters ("Qiaopi – 僑批"), students witnessed the profound patriotism and deep affection of the Hakka people for their homeland.

Following the exhibition, students attended an intangible cultural heritage workshop focusing on Yao embroidery. The beautiful traditional Yao costume was first introduced to the students. They were fascinated by the colour and intricate patterns on the designs. Students then engaged in a hands-on workshop to craft classic Yao embroidery fridge magnets.

This cultural exchange activity enabled students to deepen their understanding of Chinese history and culture, experience traditional craftsmanship, and strengthen their cultural confidence and historical perspective.
