|Objectives of Innovative technology
While we are amazed by the state-of-the-art development of information technology nowadays, it is essential to think of how innovative deployment of such technologies could facilitate the way we live, work and study. The course is carefully designed in such a way that students have the opportunity not only to understand the trend of development of information technology, but also learn to apply technology creatively for future work and study.
As one of the pilot schools in Hong Kong participating in the LEAD programme (Learning through Engineering, Art & Design), organized by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, in collaboration with the Media Laboratory of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, U.S.A and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Lam Tai Fai College adopts an innovative approach of inventing and introducing an unprecedented creative and integrative curriculum into normal classroom teaching. This year, S1 students took part in the programme which aims at developing students' multiple talents with particular focus on:
- English Language,
- knowledge in Engineering, Art & Design and Computer Literacy,
- generic skills, e.g. creativity, problem-solving skills, critical-thinking skills, collaboration, etc,
- values and attitudes, e.g. being a responsible, pro-active, self-evaluative and independent learner
through hands-on learning experience and learning by trials-and-errors in a risk-free and open environment, using Lego blocks and other materials as learning tools. Students also learnt with an enquiry-based and process-oriented learning approach in the programme.
As a showcase of students' work, Mr. Keung Chi Kin and 3 of our S1 students (CHUNG Tsoi Yi, LAI Kong Ting and MOK Tsz Ho from S1C) proudly exhibited their creative work in an interview in the programme, "After-school ICU" on TVB Jade on 28th January, 2008. Students exhibited their robotic creations to the general public on the theme "Mascot of LTFC". Motorized robots with sound and lighting devices were exhibited. Students also did detailed sharing and presentation of their work which demonstrated a strong creative cross-over and a heedful sense of belongings to the School. The showcase was a great success and creativity as well talents of our students was confirmed.
Here are some snapshots of the event.
