A Talk on Green Fashion by Professor Philip Yeung Kwok Wing, our School Manager & his Team
A Talk on Green Fashion with Professor Philip Yeung Kwok Wing (楊國榮教授), Executive Director (總幹事) of Clothing Industry Training Authority; Chairman, the Asian Federation of Textile Professional Association and Vice-Chairman, Hong Kong Institution of Textiles and Apparel on Wednesday, February 11, 2009.

It is our greatest honour to have Professor Yeung and the experts from CITA, including Mr Alex Yeung Wai Hon (楊維漢), Programme Director(課程總監), Mr Patrick Tsoi Hiu Ching (蔡曉青), Lecturer (講師) and Ms Conita Cheng Chi Ping (鄭志萍), Lecturer (講師) to deliver to our students a talk on 'Green Fashion'.
"Nature has no problem. The problem is with us." said Professor Yeung, our School Manager, "that's why Green Fashion is much talked about in these days". The presence of Professor Yeung and the experts from CITA was a vivid proof to every LTFC students their enthusiasm for Green and Environmental issues as they shared ways in which we can live 'green' and care for the environment.

What is the cost of a pair of jeans, or a copy of a newspaper? You might say, 'Very little.' However, it is not the price that matters. Since the moment that we are born everything we consume puts a price on ecology, more than can be imagined. It is mother nature who sacrifices whenever choices are to be made … global warming, loss of energy, water pollution, air pollution. All these are problems created by nature, they are problems we create. Now, as put by Mr Alex Fung, one of the speakers, to go green with green fashion and green life, especially when there are groups of people who are doing their best to save the environment.
What can we students of LTFC, as global citizens, do to help save our mother nature from danger? As consumers, we have the responsibility to support green enterprises and products. As students of LTFC, we have to develop a green mind, especially in our study and pursuit in one of our Focus Learning Area, Creative Fashion Design. Always ask ourselves questions: Are these products that I'm consuming harmful to the environment? Are there any products that help minimize damage and destruction? Mr Alex Fung was kind enough to give us a very detailed account on these. Students are advised to start to be green and it is our duty of lives. Be aware of every opportunity to be more environmentally friendly. At meals, choose to have organic food instead of those laced with pesticides! At work, be conscious not to work against the environment.

Remember, the environment doesn't need us; we can't live without the environment. All we have to do is to take care of it. Heartfelt thanks to Professor Yeung and his team for showing all these to us.

An Interview with Professor Philip Yeung Kwok Wing, Executive Director, Clothing Industry Training Authority; Chairman, the Asian Federation of Textile Professional Association and Vice-Chairman, Hong Kong Institution of Textiles and Apparel on Wednesday, February 4, 2009
It is indeed our gracious pleasure to have the kind consent of Professor Yeung, one of our School Managers, together with the experts of CITA, for giving our students a talk on 'Green Fashion' on Wednesday, February 11, 2009. Making good preparation for the forthcoming talk, six S6 students visited the CITA and interviewed Professor Yeung. The presence of our S6 students in CITA in the afternoon of Wednesday, February 4 was a proof of LTFC students' enthusiasm for healthy lifestyle, creative fashion design and environmental issues.

In the interview, Professor Yeung gave us the background, trend and latest development of Clothing Industry of Hong Kong as well as the World Market. As a renowned educationalist, he pointed out that 'Go Green Fashion' is something that is worth promoting in secondary schools. Students not only should adopt a green life to help preserve the environment and save energy, but also should make life more caring, creative and fun.
Professor Yeung went further to say that, "Chances are, you've heard about the environmental ills of the world since your first Earth Day in Kindergarten. Since you already recycle your plastic bottles and turn off the bathroom faucet while you brush your teeth, you might be wondering what other easy, fun things you can do to go green (greener)." What is the cost of a pair of jeans? You might say, 'Very little'. However, it is not the price that matters. Since the moment we are born everything we consume puts a price on ecology, more than can be imagined. After all, 'Green Fashion' is our ways of life.
As put by Professor Yeung, one easy way is to follow the three R's --- Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. When you need something new, look for the stuff made from recycled materials like rubber or PET plastic bottles, reused components like reworked leather or vintage fabrics, or reduce by choosing products with less packaging or ones that are made closer to your home, etc. But what's more? That's why 'Go Green Fashion' as the threshold of 'Sustainable Development' of the 21st century will be talked about. So for showing us the way to make it happen, Professor Yeung and his experts at the CITA will be our guest speakers on the topic next week. We are really looking forward to their talk! Heartfelt thanks to Professor Yeung and the experts of CITA for their inspiring sharing!
